All money raised by Rotary goes directly to charity after deduction of the cost of organising charity events. Members often subsidise events to keep costs to a minimum, and use their contacts to obtain sponsorship and prizes. There are no administrative expenses as Rotarians give their time for free. Any money thus raised for a charity is never less than the net total the Club receives (as Members often make up that collected to a “round figure”).
Rotary members monitor recipients to check that donations are spent as intended. Where a supported project is overseas, a Rotary Club near that location checks the use of the funds on our behalf.
The Club has so far purchased 60 Shelterboxes (which cost £490 each), all of which have been used in emergencies around the world. Each box contains a 10-person tent, 10 sleeping bags, water purification equipment, etc. This year, the Club is sponsoring for More House School (a specialist school for children with special needs). We will also be supporting a number of overseas charities, including CHIKS (Childrens’ Homes in Kerala State) - in India)., iMembers of the Club are active in many local projects, e.g., we support Heath End School by providing interviewers to give their Year 10 students the experience of being interviewed which, for many of the students, is a “first time”. We also provide manpower to help at local events such as the annual Festival of Transport, Bells Piece (a Leonard Cheshire Home), Woodlarks Workshop and Campsite; these are just a few examples.
